When Highland meets Bhangra – pure Canadiana joy

This video shows Highland dancers from Shot of Scotch Vancouver performing with the Royal Academy Of Bhangra at the BC Highland Games & Scottish Festival in June 2017. I have watched it well over 20 times, and it makes me smile every time.

The two troupes had met before, but this new collaboration caught the eyes of many Canadians. It also made every former Highland dancer (well – my sisters and me, anyway) want to take up Bhangra.

For the frugal amongst us, attending a Highland Games festival is a great bang for the buck. Other than paying the admission fee, all the entertainment is free. Watch the highland dancing, the caber toss, thrill to the skirl of the bagpipes, and indulge in haggis. When else will you eat it? And if you’re really lucky, maybe you’ll get to see something truly unique: A Bhangra and Highland fusion.

Check out this website from the Pipers’ and Pipe Band Society of Ontario to see upcoming Highland Games.
