The wildfire in Slave Lake May 15, 2011 and the subsequent flooding 6 weeks later brought to light how well people were insured. Here is an opportunity for you to find out what you need to know to make sure your house/property is adequately insured and what disasters insurance covers and what insurance doesn’t cover.

About the Insurance Bureau of Canada: Established in 1964, the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) is the national industry association representing Canada’s private home, car and business insurers. IBC works on a number of fronts to increase public understanding of home, care and business insurance.  Public understanding is fostered through IBC’s five regional consumer centres, where trained personnel with many years of industry and government relations experience answer tens of thousands of consumer inquiries each year.

About the Instructor: Frits Wortman CIP (Chartered Insurance Professional). Mr. Wortman commenced his insurance career in Toronto in 1956 and ended up in Edmonton in 1980. He started up a new branch operation and in 1993 became the Regional Vice President for Western Canada. He retired in 1996 and started a second career with the Insurance Bureau of Canada as the Sr. Consumer Information Officer. Mr. Wortman currently holds insurance broker licenses for all provinces and territories except for Quebec.
